Internet explorer is the well-known web browser which comes with the Windows OS and is used for surfing the internet and browsing web pages.Internet explorer was initially released as an add-on package for Windows 95 and the early versions came with a simple looking interface and retro icons. By the time version 2.0 was released IE was part of Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, and NT 4.0 operating systems; version 3 included support for internet mail and news and the windows address book, unfortunately however this version came with many security and privacy issues which resulted in users reverting back to IE2. IE4 fixed the security and privacy vulnerabilities that were in IE3, but it contained its own issues which were later solved in version IE4.5 which up until this point was the most stable version. IE6 was the last version to support Windows 2000 and included Windows Messenger integration, media bar and also the Internet Explorer Administration Kit which was a customization package for companies wishing to adapt IE to their needs.IE7 saw tabbed browsing introduced, the interface looked more sleek and it was also the first version to run a check on whether your Windows OS was genuine prior to installation, however Microsoft removed this requirement a year after its release. IE8 released in 2009 made security its priority and enhanced the RSS and CSS support. The 2011 release of IE9 saw little changes in-terms of UI and functionality. Its main improvements are to the performance of web applications and graphics making use of hardware acceleration using Direct2D and DirectX. Other features include the InPrivateBrowsing feature which allows users to browsing data (i.e. history); as for security, users are protected by what is called SmartScreen filter which blocks websites which are fraudulent or contain malware.Compatibility: Internet Explorer version 1.0 Other Internet SoftwareAmerica Online

Internet Explorer sports a whole menu called Safety, from which you can control its class-leading privacy and security protections. These include SmartScreen Filter, which warns you when you try to navigate to malicious sites or download suspected programs. According to a recent study by AV-Comparatives(Opens in a new window), IE is second to Opera in protecting users from phishing scams. They checked against 294 phishing sites, and came up with these results for success at blocking them:
The title of an article by PCMag's security guru, Neil Rubenking, says volumes: Windows 8's Internet Explorer 10 Reigns Supreme in Browser Safety Test. In the piece, Neil cites a test by NSS Labs showing that Internet Explorer 10 browser detected and blocked over 99 percent of malicious downloads. All this doesn't prevent occasional breaches, which the company patches, as does every other browser maker.

Microsoft has just made available for download Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview for Windows 7. This latest preview can be downloaded from the Microsoft website. But here is the thing, IE10 for Windows 7 is in its pre-release stages, which means that anyone should not be using this code in a production Windows PC, for that users should wait for the final release of the web browser.
There will always be pros and cons for each browser, of course, so it is worth familiarising yourself with exactly what internet Explorer 10 has that other browsers lack: the features and attractions that make it such a widely-used tool for browsing the web.
As you'll be aware, the internet is rife with security concerns, but Internet Explorer 10 is equipped to deal with these. Do Not Track is a default feature, and the browser also enables Do Not Track. Meanwhile, additional features will protect your downloads and block malware websites. For most users, this will be more than enough for peace of mind when browsing the internet.
Internet Explorer[a] (formerly Microsoft Internet Explorer[b] and Windows Internet Explorer,[c] commonly abbreviated as IE or MSIE) is a deprecated series of graphical web browsers developed by Microsoft that were used in the Windows line of operating systems. Starting in 1995, it was first released as part of the add-on package Plus! for Windows 95 that year. Later versions were available as free downloads or in-service packs and included in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) service releases of Windows 95 and later versions of Windows. Microsoft spent over US$100 million per year on Internet Explorer in the late 1990s,[6] with over 1,000 people involved in the project by 1999.[7][8] New feature development for the browser was discontinued in 2016[9] in favor of its successor, Microsoft Edge.
